#3 Divine Appointment

By: Anonymous Contributor

My story took place approximately twenty years ago. My husband and I lived in a lovely home, due to his skill to renovate and turn any house into a showpiece. I’ve always been grateful for God’s blessings, a good husband and our two wonderful children. Although there were many things to be thankful for, I was regrettably going through very difficult soul introspection at this time in my life.

Growing up in a family where there was a lot of religious expectation and spiritual abuse had pushed me to an emotional crisis. I suspected there was more to my childhood than I could remember or had been told. Trauma was surfacing in my soul and yet there seemed to be little reason for it. I had very few memories to connect the two. Although I had gone through difficulties as a child, those events should not have produced the anguish which was emerging in my emotions.

That summer, I had determined to pursue the Holy Spirit concerning what I was feeling and began to lean heavily on his guidance. I felt compelled to spend a weekend at our trailer by myself, which was approximately an hour from our house and located at a quiet and restful campground, surrounded by beautiful scenery, making it a perfect, secluded God retreat.  On Sunday afternoon, as I spent time in prayer and wrote in my journal, I suddenly received some answers to my questions. The revelation which came was gut wrenching and extremely painful. My tears flowed profusely as I absorbed the truth.

As I sought the Lord for further instruction, I sensed the Holy Spirit urging me to go to church that evening. I felt very alone, not able to share what I was going through with anyone. Calling my husband and telling him about my unusual encounter made me nervous. I didn’t know what he would say if I told him, “The Lord just instructed me to go to church tonight.” The directive I received seemed so unusual and was very out of character for me.

But I had sought the Lord’s guidance and this is what I sensed he was directing me to do. So, I chose to obey and left the campground, looking for a church that might be open. Although I was somewhat familiar with the area, I had no idea where there would be a house of worship with an evening service. After driving for a while, I came across a church but there were no cars in the parking lot and the building appeared empty.

I drove on and merged onto a main highway. I hadn’t driven very far when I noticed a large event tent on one side and I could hear music emanating from the open flaps of the doorway. Sounds of praise and worship floated toward me and filtered into my car. Curious if this was where the Holy Spirit had led me, I turned off and parked my car with the other vehicles, lined up in rows.

As I exited my car and walked toward the tent, the singing grew louder and I could sense the sweet presence of the Lord. At that moment I knew I was in the right place. When I entered through the opening, I noticed that the place was quite full. Finding a spot in the center of the crowd, I sat through the preaching and wondered how the evening would play out. After the message was complete, the minister invited people to come to the front, those who wanted prayer and to be ministered to. I went up and joined the many others who were waiting there. The preacher went from one person to the next, praying for them and speaking words of encouragement. When he came to stand before me, I shared some details of my struggle and he declared that this moment was a “divine appointment”. I agreed since God had clearly led me here.

He called for several women to surround me and pray for me. Feeling encompassed in a cocoon of care, they prayed and loved on me, and my tears flowed. I so needed that encouragement that night and it touched my soul and brought a measure of healing.

Earlier that day, Holy Spirit had just revealed to me that the blocked memories I had from my early childhood were that my father was indeed the one that had sexually abused me. That night I needed the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the love of my Heavenly Father and he used that “divine appointment” to show me how much he cared. I will be forever grateful for God’s supernatural revelation and direction that day.

*****

Once we get to Heaven and God shows us a reel of our life, we will discover how many times we were rescued, protected or redirected by supernatural means. What a divine privilege it is that, during our time on earth, God gives us snapshots into the supernatural realm, unusual happenings that announce that Heaven is present and involved in our lives.

For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.

Psalm 91:11

If you would like to share a personal story of supernatural protection or angelic activity in your history, please reach out. Private message me on Facebook messenger or through my email – collreim@gmail.com – and I will explain the details. I would love to share your testimony on my email newsletter story edition and on my blog as an encouragement to others. As it says in Hebrews 3:13, Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today’.
