Hopefully you have enjoyed my blog stories so far. I have certainly relished creating them. The last few weeks I became aware that my short stories were about to take a drastic shift in direction.
When I first started posting short stories I imagined that the trajectory of my writing would continue for an extended time – comfort to God’s people. But in the last few weeks, perhaps the last month, God has been redirecting me to an alternate path.
The novel I am currently working on, have been working on for a year and a half, has prepared me for the short stories I will now be writing. This novel in progress, in the fantasy/allegory genre, is very different in style than what I am used to. To be honest, when I began to write my current novel it was an extreme stretch for me.
Delving into the realm of fantasy/allegory has not come naturally for me. World building is not something I gravitate towards. But this is what God has encouraged me into the last few years. He began giving me storyline and ideas for a new novel in the spring of 2014. I’ve been working on this book ever since. As you can tell, with the time it’s taken so far, it’s been a difficult project for me. I feel completely out of my element. I am slowly becoming more comfortable in writing this genre.
The new short stories God began to download to me a few weeks ago, that’s how it feels, like He’s dictating and I’m simply making notation, are also in the sphere of fantasy/allegory. As I wrote the first short story in this genre I realized that it is very similar to the novel I’m working on.
This blog entry is my introduction to the shift in my short story writing. The stories will be like chapters in a book, the narrative continuing from blog entry to blog entry. At least that’s what I’m seeing so far – a book made up of multiple short stories.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this new venture. Let me know if you enjoy the story-line and the idea of a continuing story. I am expectantly optimistic that I have readers that will enjoy the new genre I’m delving into.
I am planning to share the first of these stories very soon – hopefully tomorrow.
Merry Reading,
Colleen Reimer
